4 Ways to Style an Open Cardigan

An open cardigan
is the perfect piece to transition into fall. Not only can it be worn as a
shawl on warmer “fall days” in September and October, it can transition into
the cooler months of the winter by layering a thicker sweater underneath. See
how I transition it depending on the weather with the 4 looks below. All the
outfits can be worn without the cardigan, but the cardigan adds an extra layer
and punch!

The Shawl Style

 When it’s still 70
degrees out

This
is perfect for right now. When it’s still hot outside during the day, through
it on with a tank, short sleeve shirt, or cami underneath. You don’t
necessarily have to “wear” the cardigan, I liked wearing it halfway – draping
it on my arms similar to a scarf. Add a belt to complete the outfit, and throw
on a pair of booties. Easy fall outfit that takes 2 minutes to throw on.

The Jacket Style

            Layer up with another
sweater

You
can also turn this oversized sweater into an outwear layer. It’s not going to
keep the wind out, but it adds a bundle of warmth for a quick walk from the car
to dinner.Paired with a black
turtleneck sweater below for contrast.

The Signature Flannel

Easy way to elevate the flannel look

Everyone’s
favorite fall staple – a flannel. Why not stand out by layering over an open cardigan?

Canadian Tuxedo Twist

This
pairing is so fun! I was browsing through my closet looking for tops to pair
with the cardigan and pulled out chambray. I kept on the same jeans I was wearing, and loved the double denim look with this oatmeal colored
cardi. The double denim works when it’s high contrast. You could also wear a deep maroon colored jeans or black jeans to break up the double blue.

The Perfect Chunky Knit Cardigan

Out of all the open cardigans out there, I
went with this chunky knit from Free People. It’s on sale for 30% off at Macy’s right now with the code VIP, link below! I couldn’t find any that had this
“chunky” or “hand knit” look with the holes, I think those features make the
cardi stand out. I’ve linked similar cardigan options below, but this one is truly worth the
price because you can wear it so many ways!
