Sweet Treats in Nashville: The best dessert

In honor of National Donut Day, my top picks for sweet treats around Nashville. Obviously, donuts is the #1 pick.

1.    Five Daughters Bakery

If there’s one dessert you try in Nashville, it has to be Five Daughters. It’ not just a donut, but a 100 layer, cooked to perfection ball of heaven. You can practically feel every soft, delicious layer in each bite, complimented with a flavorful cream filling, icy glaze and rolled in granulated sugar. The signature maple flavor is a must, and the lemon blackberry if it’s the seasonal flavor.

To top it off, the bakery started with a father’s inspiration at home – his five-daughter family. The original donut shop is the most adorable white, aqua and bright pink home in 12South. You can find additional locations in Franklin, East Nashville and now Atlanta.

2.    Gigi’s Cupcakes

Okay, Chicago still has the cupcake winner with Molly’s Cupcakes. Seriously, you can’t beat a cupcake stuffed with cake batter. But you can come close with a Cookie Dough Cupcake from Gigi’s in Nashville.  It’s a triple threat with cookie dough flavored cake, topped with a buttercream frosting that tasted exactly like cookie dough, and a cookie on top.  They have a great rewards program, including a free cupcake during your birthday month, a free cupcake when you sign up.  There are multiple locations in Nashville & surrounding areas, so there’s bound to be a convenient location for you.

3.    No Baked Cookie Dough

You don’t have to wait in 6 hour lines in NYC to eat cookie dough! I’ve always loved the dough more than the actual cookie, and I would would pick a bowl of cookie dough over ice cream any day. Signature chocolate chip, sprinkle sugar cookie, brownie batter and cookie monster are consistent flavors.

4.    Franklin Juice Co

Sharing the best “healthy” dessert: acai bowls from Franklin Juice Co. Toppings include all the fresh berries, hemp seeds, peanut butter, local honey, goji berries, bee pollen, and more. Can substitute for a lunch or snack! There are locations in 12South and Franklin.

5.    Proper Bagel

Okay this place is more breakfast, but they have what your sweet tooth is craving with homemade sweet cream cheese flavors. Birthday cake, Nutella, chocolate chip cookie dough, and more. They also have amazing savory spreads, but that’s not really dessert.  Flavored cream cheese is amazing on a bagel, or bring it home and top it on some homemade banana bread. They also make baked goods, including s’more bars, homemade pop-tarts, donuts, and other rotating treats.

6.    S’more Love

In every dessert category I probably say this my favorite dessert. S’mores is another one.  Now you can eat a homemade smore
without the hassel of building a fire by finding the S’more Love food truck. It roams around town – follow them on Instagram to keep up with their location.

7.    Las Paletas

Cool off with homemade popsicles from Las Paletas, which is Spanish for popsicles. There are choices for everyone: dairy-free fruit based, creamy ice cream base, or sugar free.  Enjoy while you walk around 12South or enjoy a stroll in Sevier Park across the street.
